Effect on health and safety of firefighters due to cuts in officer/middle manager posts

Conference condemns the loss of any Grey Book posts. Day and Flexi-duty posts are
being particularly targeted, disproportionately affecting Officer Members. The loss of
such posts severely impacts upon the safety of operational crews, through reduced
support services and limitations on the availability of tactical incident command skills.
It also places unacceptable workloads/stress upon the remaining Officer posts.

Conference calls upon the Executive Council to carry out urgent surveys of the
present Officer establishments and any reductions within the last 3 years, including
any reductions already planned.

It is vital that future campaigns against Fire & Rescue Service cuts specifically include
arguments to support the maintenance of adequate officer posts, for the safety and
benefit of all operational personnel and the communities we serve.

Conference requests that this work be carried out within the next 12 months.
