Campaign against cuts

Conference welcomes the public campaign, launched by the Executive Council,
against widespread cuts to frontline resources in the fire and rescue service. With the
prospect of scores of fire station closures and the loss of thousands of firefighter
posts, and against the backdrop of a sharp increase in response times over the last
decade, it is crucial that the campaign to defend our service continues apace.
Cuts cost lives, and conference believes that crude economic considerations should
never compromise the ability of local fire and rescues services to protect the public
from danger.

To that end, conference calls on the Executive Council to maintain the momentum of
the anti-cuts campaign through effective use of the media, political and industrial
lobbying, and engagement with other trade unions and community groups, and to
encourage local brigade committees and activists to do the same.
