Policy text
Conference is appalled at the constant danger faced by Palestinian Emergency Service Workers on a daily basis as they attempt to rescue sick and dying casualties whilst under attack from Israeli Occupation Forces. The Fire Brigades Union has a long history of supporting people in struggle throughout the world in general and Palestine in particular. Even though the FBU faces unprecedented attacks on its members as a result of the ideologically driven cuts, we should not stop our international work. All Emergency Service Workers in Gaza and the Occupied West Bank are under constant threat of violence from Israel and have seen hospitals, fire stations and emergency service vehicles directly targeted resulting in the destruction of vital infrastructure and deaths and injuries of workers. Conference urges the Executive Council to work with political allies to exert continued pressure on the UK Government to not only impose sanctions against Israel, but also to provide support to Emergency Service Workers in East Jerusalem, Gaza and the Occupied West Bank. Conference further instructs the Executive Council to investigate a further project, in conjunction with other UK Trade Unions where possible, which will provide physical support for Palestinian Emergency Service Workers.
