Gfiw - Iraq

Conference strongly protests against the Iraqi Governments decision to withdraw recognition of the GFIW and appoint partisan officials to take over union structures and assets and oversee deeply flawed union elections. This worrying interference in the internal affairs of unions is a breach of International Labour Standards. Conference calls on the Executive Council to bring political pressure to bear, by whatever means possible, on the Iraqi Government to repeal its repressive decrees, to restore recognition to the GFIW and its structures. Furthermore, conference calls on the Executive Council to continue support for Iraqi Trade Unions during these difficult times.
