Nominating section: BLACK & ETHNIC MINORITY MEMBERS AS AMENDED BY CLEVELAND
Policy text
This FBU Annual Conference recognises that there has been an increase in the
number of FBU Representatives who have been targeted for disciplinary action or
investigation by management, for carrying out what is their normal trade union duties and activities.
To demonstrate to management that FBU Representatives have the full support of
their trade union nationally and from their National Officials - if any representative of the FBU is under attack, management must be informed that, we consider this as a direct attack against the union itself and this will be met with the full force and resource of the union.
This demonstration of support should take the form of a National Officer being
appointed with the responsibility for organising:
• Support for the FBU representative that is going through the discipline
procedure in their respective Brigade, including welfare provisions.
• Direct liaisons and guidance to the FBU legal services providers to vigorously
defend the FBU Representative against the Brigade discipline process.
• Where appropriate a national statement of support issued condemning these
type of tactics from Fire and Rescue Service Managers.
These actions to be taken as soon as the FBU become aware of a Representative
being disciplined.
