Haiti

Conference welcomes the TUC Black Workers Conference decision in April 2010 to send the FBU motion entitled "Haiti" to Congress 2010. The motion calls for the TUC and its affiliates to take action in response to the devastating earthquake which struck the Haitian capital Port Au Prince on the 12th January 2010. The FBU have already supported the humanitarian, political and financial responses. Many of our members have been involved personally through their life saving Fire & Rescue Service roles, but much more needs to be done in order to reconstruct and develop Haitian society, infrastructure and economy. Conference therefore requests: • Local, regional and national support for the TUC Congress Motion - "Haiti". • The FBU support and develop links with our sister trade unions in Haiti. • We seek ongoing dialogue between Haitian Trade Unions and the FBU International Committee. • Brigade Committees establish relationships with their Fire and Rescue Services in order to provide training, equipment and financial aid for Haiti. • Full FBU support for the B&EMM National Committee to co-ordinate ongoing trade union initiatives with our Haitian comrades as agreed by the Executive Council.
