Drug, Alcohol And Substance Misuse - National Guidance

This Conference recognises the increasingly stressful circumstances faced by FBU members not only at work but in their day to day lives and its impact on those members.At the same time Conference notes the corresponding rise in the number of issues relating to drug, alcohol and substance misuse dependency being negotiated on by officials, many of whom are not fully cognisant of the causes, effects, scope or support and assistance available to affected members. This is unacceptable. This Conference demands that the FBU undertakes a study incorporating within its span the extent, causes and effects of such dependencies, whilst auditing existing Drug, Alcohol and Substance Misuse Policies, both within the British Fire Service and in the workplace in general, thus establishing best practice. The findings of this study to be used to produce a national guidance document to assist officials in negotiations.
