Mansoor Hassan:
Appeal To European Court Of Human Rights

Mansoor Hassan, a journalist, is from Pakistan and lives in Manchester with his wife and four children. In August 2002 Mansoor had to flee from his country after exposing corrupt Government ministers, drug gangs and the involvement of powerful politicians in the 'honour' killings of innocent women. Mansoor applied for Asylum in this country and had his application refused; this despite the court accepting that Mansoor and other members of his family had been shot at, tortured, poisoned and had their house burned down. In April this year, supported by his Union, the NUJ, Mansoor appealed to the European Court of Human Rights in that he did not receive a fair hearing, nor did he receive a fair adjudication. Conference therefore calls upon the Executive Council to: • Support the campaign against the deportation of the Hassan family. • Write to the Home Office to demand that no move is made to deport/expel the Hassan family until the appeal to the European Court of Human Rights has been heard and any subsequent due process completed.
