The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) has vowed to hold the Conservatives to account for their promise to increase fire resources across Northumberland.
The commitment was made in the run-up to the local elections earlier this month where the Conservatives became the biggest party on the county council.
During the latest round of cuts to the service, Haydon Bridge fire station was closed and a fire engine was removed from West Hartford fire station.
Guy Tiffen, brigade secretary for the FBU in Northumberland, said: “The fire and rescue service needs to be fully resourced in order to keep the public safe. We expect the Conservatives to follow through on the promises that they were elected upon.”
The FBU says extra funds for the fire and rescue service and all other public services could be made available as a result of the estimated millions of pounds in savings created after the Conservative’s pledged to keep Northumberland County Hall in Morpeth, rather than relocate.
