Firefighters Jennie Logan, 30, and Martyn Sadler, 38, tragically died in a fire at the Bicester Motion site on Thursday 15 May 2025. Both were FBU members based at Bicester fire station in Oxfordshire.
A member of the public, David Chester, also died in the fire, and two FBU members who attended the same incident are still in hospital.
Both families have issued statements honouring their loved ones through Thames Valley Police.
In their statement, Jennie Logan’s family said that she “found her calling three years ago when she joined the fire service where she could use her incredible strength and determination.”
“She was a force to be reckoned with, but to everyone who knew her she was such a loving, caring, thoughtful person, who would do anything and everything to help.”
Martyn Sadler’s family said that “Martyn was born to be a firefighter. Coming from a strong fire service family it was always in his blood, but it was significantly more than that with him, it was his life.”
“He was a loving husband, son, brother, uncle and all-round family member, an amazing friend, a committed colleague and the true definition of a hero."
The cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the tragedy are currently being investigated by Thames Valley Police and the Health and Safety Executive, and is also being investigated fully by the FBU.
Steve Wright, Fire Brigades Union general secretary, said: “On behalf of the Fire Brigades Union, I send our deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Jennie Logan and Martyn Sadler.
“Jennie and Martyn died in the line of duty protecting their community. They were both well-loved and widely respected. We are proud that they were members of our union. We also send our condolences to the family and friends of David Chester, a member of the public who died at the same incident in Bicester, Oxfordshire on Thursday 15 May.
"The FBU will leave no stone unturned in our investigation. We need to identify the causes of this tragedy and ensure that any lessons are learned to protect members in the future."
