Climate change is a very real threat, with countries across the world – including the UK – feeling the impact.
Firefighters are on the frontline of the crisis, fighting wildfires and flooding and see the devastating effects on communities and the environment.
A decade of brutal cuts has left the UK fire and rescue service stretched to the limit and without the resources to tackle the effects of climate change.
Across the UK, there are 20% fewer fire and rescue service staff than in 2010. In England, there’s no statutory flooding duty, leaving fire services without essential funding to respond to flooding incidents.
The number of wildfires and floods will only continue to rise and place a burden on the service. Failing to invest in the fire service is failing to invest in vital climate change mitigation.
Firefighters know an emergency when they see one. The government must listen to our demands for urgent funding for the service to prepare for the future.
