FIGHTING CUTS, DEFENDING PENSIONS, DEMANDING PROPER PAY

The Fire Brigades Union has been fighting to protect our members and defend our industry.  We won a landmark pension victory for our members and have been at the forefront of fighting back against dangerous cuts to the frontline service.  We have also undertaken a detailed series of negotiations in an attempt to achieve a significant pay rise for all FBU members.

These negotiations came to a standstill when the fire service employers tabled a derisory proposal which would have resulted in a ‘non-exhaustive’ list of additional work.  The subsequent 2% pay increase marks a further real term pay cut and follows a decade of falling wages.  At the same time, our employers have been abusing the goodwill of firefighters at local level by increasingly asking them to undertake additional new areas of work for free. Meanwhile, Westminster government sits back and continues to slash our funding.

We are building for a major campaign to take on these issues, and all FBU members need to be involved.  Please attend one of the meetings taking place in your region below, and hear direct from the General Secretary and other officials. Stand up for our service, get organised and fight back.
