There has been serious flooding in various parts of Wales over the weekend and tragically one person has been killed. Several families have also been rescued by firefighters in North Wales and in Mid and West Wales.
As always happens, firefighters have been out on the front line – trying to protect our communities. The issue of major flooding and the planning and response to it has been the source of considerable debate since 2007. The FBU report on the 2007 floods can be found here. We have subsequently continued to lobby the Westminster government and the devolved administrations about planning, equipment, resources and training – and especially about clarifying the role of the fire and rescue service by introducing a clear obligation under statute for the service to plan and prepare for such incidents.
