Fire chief steals caravans

Police officers and security guards acting on the instructions of the Chief Fire Officer Malcolm Saunders last night forcibly removed caravans from the forecourts of Crosby and Kirkdale Fire Stations. In an inflammatory action last night the Chief Officer has entrenched the dispute further.

Firefighters, Fire Officers and Emergency Fire Control Staff have been locked out of their Fire Stations and workplaces and security guards put in their place at a cost of £13,000 a day. The pickets arranged for caravans to be placed outside Fire Stations to enable them to have tea and coffee making facilities. The Chief Officer has forcibly removed these caravans and locked them in the Fire Station yard.

Les Skarratts FBU Merseyside Brigade Secretary said: “It is yet another example of the Chief Fire Officer’s contempt for his workforce. We are continually trying to resolve this dispute whilst the Chief Officer is continually entrenching it.”
