Merseyside fire strike inflamed

It has become clear today that Merseyside Fire and Civil Defence Authority are intent on inflaming the current fire dispute in Merseyside. They have written to all FBU members in Merseyside stating that they not only intend not to pay wages on strike days, but they also intend to claim extra money from FBU members to pay for Green Goddesses.

Les Skarratts FBU Brigade Secretary Merseyside, said: “It is now abundantly clear that the Chief Fire Officer Malcolm Saunders and the Merseyside Fire Authority have no intention of resolving this dispute. There are no further talks planned at this moment. The 8-day strike that is planned to start at 0900 hours tomorrow will go ahead and the only contribution the Fire Authority is making to the dispute is to threaten our members and try to inflame the situation.

"We would like to know if the Fire Authority intends to charge Chief Fire Officer Malcolm Saunders £60,000 to pay for his failed futile attempt to stop this dispute in the High Court.

"It is still not too late to end this dispute if the Fire Authority want to; all they have to do is abide by the unanimous decisions of the Fire Service National Disputes Panel, the same as every other Fire Authority in the country.”
