East Sussex Fire Authority are trying to force through dangerous cuts to the fire service in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis.
They say that the cuts will make residents safer by putting resources in the right place, at the right time for dealing with emergencies. This is misleading.
The proposals include:
- Cutting 90 firefighter jobs
- Removing 10 fire engines from stations across the county
- Slashing night-time fire cover at stations across East Sussex
- Cutting dedicated crews for high-reaching aerial fire appliances
These cuts will impact firefighters' ability to respond to emergencies across the county and put East Sussex residents’ lives at greater risk.
Cutting this vital public service in the middle of a pandemic is a disgrace. Our fire service is going above and beyond to help people through the coronavirus crisis - it needs investment, not further cuts.
Help us stop these cuts before time runs out.
Not safe. Not now. Not ever.
