Grenfell Anniversary – two important events
As you will be aware, this Thursday sees the anniversary of the horrific fire at Grenfell Tower. The fire, and its aftermath were the subject of a major debate at our Conference in Brighton last week and further details of that will be issued shortly. We continue to prepare for the public inquiry which starts formal inquiry business next week.
The union, at a local, London and UK level has been working over the past year to provide support to FBU members and to prepare for the various investigations and the public inquiry. We have also sought consistently to provide support to, and build links with, the devastated local community. Many FBU members from London and from across the country have attended one of the monthly silent walks. Individual members and watches have also provided other support, including various fundraising activities for community groups. The FBU Firefighters 100 Lottery has also provided funds to community groups and to fundraising by individual watches in the LFB.
As we face the anniversary, we urge members to consider attending one or both of the following events. If attending, please wear tunics or uniform. FBU t-shirts will also be available on the Saturday demonstration.
