DEMONSTRATION TO SUPPORT MERSEYSIDE FBU
You will be aware of the current dispute in Merseyside. Our members are campaigning to defend the Fire and Rescue Service against a series of attacks on jobs and on our members' conditions of service.
the scrapping of 120 jobs;
the reduction of four fire engines at night;
the loss of 15 emergency Fire Control posts and introduction of variable staffing;
the introduction of a shift system which includes members working 96 hours straight through on a fire station.
It is now clear that the agenda on Merseyside is one of Union bashing. We have evidence that this agenda has been planned and developed over a considerable time. Within the past few days we have seen the Fire and Rescue Authority withdraw the normal arrangements for payment of FBU subscriptions and remove Union notice boards from fire stations. These petty actions are deliberately designed to provoke Merseyside FBU members yet the CFO claims that there is no anti-Union agenda.
In response to a call from Merseyside FBU the Union is asking off-duty members to attend a
