SAFER COMMUNITIES: SAFER FIREFIGHTERS – LOBBY OF PARLIAMENT

In recent weeks the President and I have attended various meetings around the UK as part of the preparation for our lobby of Parliament on 12 th November. Every Region has now had the opportunity for such a meeting and this has allowed us the chance to hear directly from members about their concerns for the future of our Service. This circular is to update you on key developments as we prepare for the Union’s rally and lobby of Parliament.

• Local officials will be in the process of arranging transport. If you have members attending the event please contact your Brigade officials for details.

• The FBU report on firefighter fatalities (“In the line of duty”) will be published officially on the Monday prior to the lobby (10th November). A copy will be sent to all Branches.

• As you will appreciate, this lobby is about an extremely serious and sensitive issue. If you are attending please wear uniform (not tunics).

• Members attending the lobby and wishing to speak to MPs can contact them using the FBU website and clicking on the link to the Safer Communities: Safer Firefighters Campaign.

• Members intending to meet MPs will be provided on the day with a briefing pack outlining key points as well as a briefing note to hand to the MP.
