CLARIFICATION ON MEMBERSHIP CONSULTATION ON PROTECTED PAY ARRANGEMENTS

Further to circular 2008HOC0164MW I would like to clarify the position regarding consultation with members on this issue.

So as to assist discussions with the employers around this matter, we have agreed that we will  attempt to give early indications of the views of our members by 3rd March. However, a final decision on the document circulated last week will not be taken by the Executive Council until 13th March. The issue would then be discussed at a meeting of the National Joint Council on the same day.

Therefore local officials will be required to ensure that the views of members and any decisions or votes taken are reported in full to Executive Council members prior to the meeting on 13th March. Many members affected have already  received detailed explanations of the negotiations so far through attending local meetings arranged specifically around this topic over the past month.

The precise mechanism for reporting responses will be determined locally by Brigade and Regional Officials.
